Sacred Heart
Catholic School is recognized by the Texas Education Agency as a
Sacred Heart Catholic School was established in 1882 by three sisters from the congregation of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. The school began as a motherhouse, novitiate, and boarding school for girls and a day school for boys and girls. General studies were offered for primary, intermediate, and high school levels as well as music, Latin, Spanish, French and German. The sisters sold the buildings to Sacred Heart Parish in 1928. In 1948, eight students graduated from the twelfth grade. In 2006, Sacred Heart Catholic School graduated twenty-nine.
Sacred Heart Catholic School is a member of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS), which provides competition in academics, music, art, and athletics. Organizations such as student council, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, band, and boys and girls athletics, provide students with the tools they need to become leaders. Students attend Mass weekly and on all holy days. Each class has the responsibility of participating in and planning liturgies. All grades have daily religion classes. In a recent national survey parents were asked why they chose a Catholic school. The following answers were given:
